Dubai to Launch 'Rent Now, Pay Later' Service With Zero Interest for 12 Months
Dubai is preparing to launch a new rental payment service in September, allowing tenants to move into a property without paying the full annual rent upfront, and instead repay it in interest-free installments spread over up to 12 months.
What's Being Launched
Dubai's real estate authority is preparing to roll out a new rental-payment initiative in September, offered in partnership with a local bank and designed to make renting more accessible for tenants who prefer not to pay a full year's rent in one lump sum.
The service, described as a 'Rent Now, Pay Later' model, would let eligible tenants move into a chosen property while spreading the cost of their annual rent over a period of up to 12 months, rather than settling the full amount upfront as is currently standard practice in much of Dubai's rental market.
- New service expected to launch in early September
- Offered in partnership with a local bank
- Aims to make renting more flexible and accessible
- Lets tenants avoid paying a full year's rent upfront
How the Mechanism Works
The mechanism being prepared works in three steps: the tenant selects the property they want to rent, the partner bank pays the full annual rent to the landlord upfront on the tenant's behalf, and the tenant then repays the bank in flexible instalments over the agreed period. Importantly, no interest is charged to the tenant on this instalment arrangement.
If the initiative is finalised and rolled out as planned, it would position Dubai as the first city globally to embed this kind of interest-free, buy-now-pay-later-style structure directly into its rental market system, rather than through a standalone consumer finance product.
- Tenant selects the property first
- Bank pays the full annual rent to the landlord upfront
- Tenant repays the bank in instalments over up to 12 months
- No interest is charged on the instalment plan
Building on Earlier Rental Reforms
This planned service builds on an earlier initiative launched at the end of June, known as 'Easy Rent', which already introduced more flexible payment structures into Dubai's rental market, including monthly, quarterly and semi-annual payment options, alongside incentives and packages offered by participating parties.
Together, the two initiatives point to a broader push to modernise how rent is structured and financed in Dubai, combining government policy with banking-sector participation to support market stability, improve quality of life for tenants, and widen the range of housing options available across different segments of the community.
- Builds on the 'Easy Rent' initiative launched in late June
- Easy Rent already introduced monthly, quarterly and semi-annual payment options
- Reflects a broader push to modernise rental payment structures
- Combines government policy with banking-sector participation
